Southwest Center for Independent Living (SCIL) encourages individuals with disabilitie and others from the community to volunteer with the center.

Volunteer Opportunities

Youth Services – Your Life Youth Group

The Southwest Center for Independent Living (SCIL) youth group, Your Life, meets each Monday at the center with approximately 50 youth in attendance.

Volunteers work one-on-one with youth with disabilities ages 14-24. As a volunteer you would fill the role as mentor, chaperone and friend. Also monthly field trips off-site

Renovation and Modification Projects – RAMPS

SCIL donates home modifications for low-income individuals with disabilities to increase access and usability of their homes. Success of the program comes from the volunteers that build wood ramps. You can commit to help build one or thirty ramps and we will train you to build!

  • Location: Typically in Greene county, but can be throughout our eight county service area

  • Commit: 10 hours per month

Newsletter & Various Mailing

  • Bulk mail preparation for bimonthly newsletter and post cards.

  • Day: Wednesday and Thursday

  • Time: Anytime 1 - 5 pm

  • Location: SCIL

  • Commit: 10 hours per month

Marketing & Development

Students volunteering for marketing can earn credit through the CASL program or work with the center directly.

Students would work directly with the Marketing & Fund Development Director in a variety of areas including marketing, public relations, fund-raising, events, market research and clerical assistance.

  • Day: Monday - Friday

  • Time: Anytime 8 am - 5 pm

  • Commit: 10-20 hours per month

Day at the Range and Outdoor Adventure Fair

Date: 3rd Saturday June, Father's Day weekend

Time: Varies, Event 8am-2pm
