SCIL staff as well as the volunteers on our "Close-Up Panel" will gladly make a presentation to your group or business at no charge. A few of the topics you might be interested in are: Disability Sensitivity, Disability Laws, SCIL Services, Accommodating the Employee with a Disability, and Access in the Home. We will tailor the presentation to your group and particular needs.
There are many laws affecting people with disabilities; the Americans With Disabilities Act is a major one, but there are also many others that are important. Staff at SCIL provides technical consultation and explanation of the ADA as well as the Fair Housing Act, The Rehabilitation Act, Air Carrier Access Act, and others for individuals or groups.
SCIL publishes a bi-monthly newsletter, the "Beacon," with a circulation of over 2,500. The newsletter is free, but donations are appreciated. Please let us know if you wish to be added to the mail list.
SCIL performs both architectural and programmatic surveys of businesses, schools, apartment complexes, and government entities. Most surveys are fee-based and include a complete written report of findings. Our Access Team will also assist in determining the most cost-effective solutions to any barriers you might have and assist in meeting compliance with existing disability laws. SCIL has an extensive library of materials, including books, articles, videotapes, and cassette tapes. The majority may be checked out by the public. All items in the library may be used for reference during our business hours.
