SCIL is always looking for volunteers who are excited to help others and gain valuable experiences while making priceless memories. Our volunteers help us in big ways! Whether you choose to volunteer once a year at one of our amazing events or if you choose to help us regularly throughout the year, by volunteering at SCIL you will be helping people with disabilities in so many different ways. We have volunteer opportunities to meet a variety of skills, schedules, abilities and experiences. Area students, fraternities, sororities, church groups, businesses, and pretty much anyone else interested in helping others are welcome to volunteer. Print our Volunteer Opportunities Information sheet here.
How to Become a SCIL Volunteer
In order to become a SCIL volunteer, you must first do three things in the order listed below:
- Have the desire to give freely of your time to help others in your community.
- Review and complete the requirements below for the type of volunteer you wish to become.
- Have a great time becoming a valued SCIL volunteer!
In order to become a SCIL volunteer for the on-going projects/activities or the re-occurring events/activities you must first review the SCIL Volunteer Handbook and complete all required forms within the handbook. We can also mail this information to you at your request. In addition, you must attend one of the SCIL Volunteer Orientations, offered monthly the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm. You must RSVP to 416-886-1188.
Many times students are required to volunteer as part of a college class assignment or as part of a fraternity/sorority community service. Due to the short time period in which many students volunteer, there are different requirements for those volunteers. Please contact us for more information at 417-886-1188 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
For individuals or groups looking for ways to give back to the community, this is a great way to have fun and volunteer in a way that directly assists in removing the physical barriers facing many people with disabilities at their own home every day. SCIL’s Renovations and Modifications Program assists low-income people with disabilities by completing home modifications, such as wheelchair ramps, so they can live safe, more independent lives. If you are interested in becoming a RAMP’s volunteer, you must first view the RAMP’s Volunteer Training Presentation and complete the required forms. The presentation has voice caption so please adjust your speakers accordingly. Once you have reviewed the presentation and completed the required forms, please return them to the Volunteer Committee at SCIL, 2864 S. Nettleton Ave., Springfield MO 65807. Once we’ve received your completed application packet we will contact you with additional information and instructions for the specific project which will be assigned to you.
